Top-Down 2D Survival Horror Game

Duration: 15 September 2025 – 10 December 2025
Engine: Unity
Legless is a top-down 2D survival horror game focused on vulnerability, tension, and atmosphere. The player controls a legless protagonist who must crawl through dark, claustrophobic environments after being injured and trapped inside the domain of a terrifying enemy known as the Butcher.
With no ability to run, survival depends entirely on stealth, sound awareness, and careful decision-making. Any noise created by interacting with objects in the environment can alert the Butcher, triggering an intense hunt. Mistakes are costly, and every movement must be considered.
To survive and escape, players must explore the environment and manage a small but meaningful inventory system:
Matches increase the player’s field of view
Bandages stop bleeding
Blood Bags restore health
Keys unlock doors and also act as save points
The game automatically saves when a key is collected, tightly integrating progression and risk into the core gameplay loop.
The project was developed over 10 weeks by a five-member team as part of the MProf programme at Abertay University. As the solo programmer, I was responsible for all gameplay systems, player controller logic, procedural crawling animation, enemy AI, custom shaders, save system, and overall technical implementation. I also worked closely with the team to iterate on gameplay feel, balance, and polish based on playtesting feedback.
Legless aims to create a constant sense of tension and helplessness, using slow movement, sound-driven threats, and environmental storytelling to keep players on edge throughout the experience.
